Journal Bearing Characteristics


A Journal Bearing is the most common type of sliding bearing.

  • The two parts include:

- Bearing & Shaft, or Journal

  • The journal is supported by the bearing.

  • The journal/shaft moves inside of the bearing.

  • Bearings can handle two types of load that depends on the direction against the shaft: Radial Load and Thrust Load.
